American Black Film Festival Comes to NYC

ABFF logoOn June 19th-22nd the 18th Annual American Black Film Festival will take place in New York City. It is a platform where many up and coming directors, producers, and actors get to be seen and their talents showcased.   Some notable alumni of the ABFF include Will Packer, “Think Like A Man” and Ryan Coogler “Fruitvale Station”. The film festival will also be home to a variety of activities that are designed to help people who look for a future in the film industry, like panels, celebrity conversations, and career forums. The film festival will also be the home of the premiere of a new movie to open the event, “Think Like A Man Too,” featuring  Kevin Hart and Gabrielle Union and opens in theaters on June 20th,2014.  The ABFF is great for the film industry because it promotes diversity as well as gives the opportunity for African-Americans to get exposure and a chance to show their world through their own creative lens.   It is important for African-Americans to be able to have a voice in the film industry and to gain greater creative control over their projects.

What better place than New York City to hold the American Black Film Festival, a city that is considered the melting pot of different cultures and where every form of media thrives.  Those who attend the American Black Film Festival will be able to see new works from talented African-American film makers and will be able to witness firsthand, the broadening of mainstream media.
