“Live From Lincoln Center” Wins Two Emmy Awards

Live From Lincoln Center—the award-winning performing arts series presenting the best of the wide-ranging programming from the world’s leading performing arts center—received two Emmy Awards this past weekend for broadcasting excellence. Both awards, for Outstanding Music Direction and for Outstanding Sound Mixing For a Variety Series or Special, were given to the Live From Lincoln Center presentation of “Danny Elfman’s Music From The Films of Tim Burton,” which aired October 2015 as part of the PBS Arts Fall Festival. This special broadcast event put composer and performer Danny Elfman in the spotlight, featuring an array of wildly entertaining performances of his most beloved music from films in collaboration with Tim Burton, such as Batman, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Mars Attacks!, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, and Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, which features Elfman singing his iconic songs.

Live From Lincoln Center, now in its 42nd season on PBS, continues to offer a front row seat to the arts. The lineup for episodes this fall include (*check local listings):

Lincoln Center At The Movies Presents Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
PBS Arts Fall Festival
This special Lincoln Center at the Movies presentation brings one of the world’s leading modern dance companies, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, to PBS. The program features the company’s signature work, Revelations, the American dance masterpiece created by founder Alvin Ailey, in addition to three additional dynamic pieces: Chroma by Wayne McGregor, Grace by Ronald K. Brown, and Takademe by the company’s Artistic Director Robert Battle.

Lang Lang’s New York Rhapsody
PBS Arts Fall Festival
Live From Lincoln Center presents the internationally acclaimed pianist Lang Lang and his love letter to New York, the city he considers his adoptive home, set to the music that helped make this city so famous. Music ranges from Copland, Gershwin, and Bernstein, to Lou Reed, Alicia Keys, and Don Henley. Joining Lang Lang will be celebrated artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Regina Spektor, Suzanne Vega, Jerry Douglas, Lisa Fischer, and rising stars including Grammy-nominated singer Andra Day, genre-bending violinist Lindsey Stirling, and Grammy-winning trumpeter Sean Jones

Joshua Bell’s Seasons Of Cuba (Working Title)
PBS Arts Fall Festival
Live From Lincoln Center brings Joshua Bell’s Seasons of Cuba (working title) to the festival lineup, in which the world-famous, Grammy Award–winning violinist Joshua Bell performs with the Chamber Orchestra of Havana, composed of some of Cuba’s most accomplished classical musicians. Bell will dazzle the audience with a range of selections from Vivaldi classics, to Piazzolla tangos and more, building a bridge for Cubans eager to engage with American artists in a new landscape of cultural diplomacy. Guest artists to be announced.

Saturday, December 31
New York Philharmonic’s New Year’s Eve (Working Title)
PBS and Live From Lincoln Center invite you to ring in 2017 with an “Enchanted Evening” of American classics, including beloved works by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Continuing an annual tradition live from David Geffen Hall, the New York Philharmonic’s home at Lincoln Center, this special presentation will include the Orchestra with Music Director Alan Gilbert and opera star Joyce DiDonato.

Emmy Award Details
These two awards are the series’ 15th and 16th Emmy Award wins. Live From Lincoln Center won an Emmy last year for Outstanding Special Class Program for its 2014 broadcast of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street featuring Bryn Terfel, Emma Thompson, and the New York Philharmonic.
