Traveling With Pets: Providence, Rhode Island

More and more Americans take Fido along on their travels. In fact, Sixty percent of pet owners said they traveled with their pets in 2010. While you can’t take your pet just everywhere, more and more travel destinations are becoming pet friendly.

In Providence, head to Gano Street Dog Park. Or have some fun with your pooch at the Dexter Training Grounds.  Providence’s India Point Park is also a must stop. It is 18 acres of open space, graceful trees, and walking paths along a 3,600-foot shoreline.

One of the best places to stay is The Sheraton Providence Airport Hotel. The hotel allows both dogs and cats to stay with you in your guest room. There is a $50.00 non-refundable pet fee. They will even give you a Sheraton Signature dog bed upon request at the front-desk, based on availability.

We got to stay in one of the  Sheraton Club Level Rooms. If you stay on one of these dedicated room, you get access to the  Sheraton Club Lounge where you can enjoy evening hors d’oeuvres, all-day snacks and beverages, as well as wireless Internet Access in your guest room among other perks.

The hotel also offer a 24-hour fitness center, including treadmills, ellipticals, strength-training machines, space for yoga mats and a heated indoor pool.
