The Locals Have Spoken: These are NYC’s Most Loved Businesses

New York is brimming with local, independent businesses, the unsung heroes of the city. They now get the recognition they deserve as thousands of New Yorker’s have voted for their most loved local places as part of the Time Out Love New York Awards 2018.

This year’s Time Out Love New York Award winners have been announced today, providing the ultimate list of go-to-places most loved by locals.

Coffee Project New York once again wins in the Time Out Love New York Awards as the most loved coffee shop, where everything—even the cups—are locally sourced, and the rotating pour ‘projects’ are a visual spectacle. And it is a family affair: the owner is originally from Malaysia, where she learned about coffee in her parents’ cafe.

The city’s most loved cinema accolade was scooped by Alamo Drafthouse City Point in Brooklyn. The sprawling theater opened last year and quickly became a destination for big hits as well as a mix of specially curated film series, and often matches dining and drink options (which can be ordered and enjoyed from your seat in comfy chairs) to the movie showing. On the first floor there is a quirky cocktail bar, House of Wax, with wax renderings of body parts.

House of Yes was crowned New York’s most loved party spot. Hosting everything from immersive cinema to burlesque to psychedelic raves, all are welcome here.

The Love New York Awards are an initiative created by Time Out, the global brand that inspires people to make the most of the city. The awards celebrate the most loved local venues and small businesses—voted for by locals—while also offering them a platform to gain the recognition and fame they deserve. Over the past few years, hundreds of thousands of locals in cities around the world from Sydney to London to L.A. cast their votes, helping people discover the best of the city and helping local businesses raise their profile, drive higher footfall and increase sales.
Caroline McGinn, Global Editor in Chief at Time Out, said: “Huge congrats to our amazing Time Out Love New York Award winners! We are incredibly proud that once again thousands of New Yorkers cast their votes to show their love for their favorite local places—it is those gems that make all the difference to the city’s neighborhoods.

“Local knowledge is what Time Out has been all about since 1968 but our editors can’t be everywhere at once. People who live in a city love and know their neighborhood, and want to tell Time Out about it. Their recommendations help us capture great existing and new venues—often cool indie spots—all over the city, and give them some love and the spotlight they deserve.”
