Liberia First Lady To Be Honored By UNIA-ACL In New York

26165818_394289337665034_435242896588304526_nThe First Lady of the Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency Clar Duncan-Weah, will be honored by the Universal Negro Improvement Association & African Communities League (UNIA-ACL) at Dinner Reception & Fundraiser in her honor at Occasions Catering Hall located at 127-08 Merrick Blvd, Queens, NY on Wednesday, July 18.

The grand ceremony, scheduled to begin at 6:30pm, will be attended by state, local and other dignitaries, among them Mayor Wilmot Collins, the first Liberian-American who was in November 2017 elected Mayor of the city of Helena, Montana, making him the first black to hold the office of mayor in the U.S. state of Montana.

The highlight of the event will be First Lady Weah’s announcement of the launch of her foundation,The Clar Hope Foundation for Liberia.  The foundation is aimed at empowering women and children through health and literacy programs.

“The First Lady loves her new country.  She is very passionate about leveling the playing field for all Liberians, especially women and children.  As such, she wants to use her foundation to build clinics, schools, and other facilities that will help Liberians forge forward to a prosperous nation.  We at UNIA-ACL are prepared to help in whatever way we can to bring fruition to the First Lady’s initiatives, said event’s chair Rosemarie James.”

A naturalized American citizen, Clar Duncan-Weah was born in the island nation of Jamaica.  She married Liberia’s iconic former FIFA World Cup Winner  George Weah in the summer of 1993 in New York, following a brief courtship. The couple met in Brooklyn, where Clar Duncan was a Chase Bank employee and where the future President had gone to open an account and was instanteously smitten by the Caribbean beauty.

The Universal Negro Improvement Association & African Communities League (UNIA-ACL) is a black fraternal organization founded in 1914 by Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey for the sole purpose of providing social, humanitarian, charitable, and educational aid its members, living out its motto:’One God! One Aim! One Destiny!’
