Make Music New York Presents: The 2018 Wingate Concert Series

 Back by popular demand, Make Music New York presents 2018 Wingate Concert Series, produced by Globe Star Median Entertainment. The celebrated affair takes place August 8, 9, 15 & 16, at Wingate Park, Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street. The festive series will include four spectacular nights of live musical performances showcasing urban music’s diverse cultural sounds.

The 2018 lineup includes performances by headliners Johnny Gill,  Estelle, JJ Hairston, and Wyclef Jean. “Make Music New York is thrilled to play an important role in presenting the Wingate Concert Series for the second consecutive summer season,” says Make Music New York executive director James Burke. Event sponsors and partners include the One Brooklyn Fund, Inc., New York City Council via the Dept. of Cultural Affairs, Con Edison, Pure Leaf House Collection, Pepsi, Spectrum, Property Markets Group, Slate Property Group, Boston Properties, Boise Schiller Flexner, Broadway Stages, Property Markets Group, Tischman Speyer, Two Trees, TD Bank, National Grid,  Christian Cultural Center, Investors Bank, Wyndham Hotel, Ponce Bank, as well as the New York City Department of Parks, the New York City Police Department (NYPD),  and the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).

Hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, the evenings will continue to celebrate the arts and culture of the borough of Brooklyn.“The rich tradition of free concerts in Wingate Park will add another chart-topping chapter this summer,” says Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams. “I’m excited to serve as host of the hottest live entertainment series in central Brooklyn this August, honoring global talents like the R&B soul of Johnny Gill, the Afro-Caribbean beat of Estelle, the gospel praise melodies of JJ Hairston, and the hip-hop flow of Wyclef Jean.”

The festival kicks off Wednesday, August 8th, as 103.9 WNBM-FM radio co-presents the Wingate Concert Series R&B Fest. Hosted by 103.9 on-air personalities La Loco & Chubb Rock, the evening will include live performances by Johnny Gill, After 7 and Vivian Green.

On Thursday, August 9th, 107.5 WBLS-FM radio co-presents the series’ Reggae/Afro-Caribbean Night, with music by Tropical Blendz, DJ’s Apache & Mad Out. The evening will include live performances by Estelle, Barrington Levy, Alison Hinds, Serani, Ricky Blaze, Alandon, Dovey Magnum, Tifa, Kappa,  Sugar Bear, and Flyame.

On Wednesday, August 15th, 1190 WLIB -AM radio co-presents the Wingate Concert Series Gospel Explosion, featuring  an evening of praise with soul-stirring, live performances by JJ Hairston, Charles Jenkins, Jonathan Nelson, and VaShawn Mitchell, with music by the Stanley Brown Band, hosted by WLIB’s own Liz Black and Niecy Tribbett.

Thursday, August 16th, WBLS-FM co-presents the Wingate Salute to Hip Hop. Brooklyn’s own Big Daddy Kane will take center stage as host for a rocking celebration commemorating hip- hop’s 45thanniversary, featuring performances by Wyclef Jean, Slick Rick, Kool Moe Dee, and Mr. Cheeks. “In honor of Brooklyn’s diverse urban music roots, Globe Star Media n Entertainment is honored to join the Brooklyn Borough President in producing this stellar affair,” states Dan Otero, Globe Star Media n Entertainment’s president..
