The Links, Incorporated 17th National President Visits Long Island

Dr. Kimberly L. Jeffries Leonard, the 17th National President of The Links, Incorporated received citations from Village of Hempstead Mayor Donald Ryan and Town of Hempstead Senior Councilwoman Dorothy L. Goosby in recognition of her life-long commitment to public service. The Long Island (NY) Chapter, under the leadership of Leah E. Watson, President held a special reception at the Garden City Hotel in honor of Dr. Jeffries Leonard.

Dr. Jeffries Leonard serves as President and CEO of Envision Consulting, LLC, a boutique public health consulting firm specializing in strategic and innovative executive level solutions for public, private and government entities, including strategic planning, program design and implementation, and program/systems assessment and evaluation. Most recently, Dr. Jeffries Leonard was appointed Chair of the Commission on African American Affairs by Washington, D.C. Mayor, Muriel Bowser. Prior to launching her own business, she held various executive level positions within the Washington, D.C. public health sector, including federal, private and local government entities.

The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of over 15,000 professional women of color in 289 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, theCommonwealth of the Bahamas and the United Kingdom. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer serviceorganizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.

The Long Island (NY) Chapter, The Links, Incorporated is the first Links chapter established on Long Island. Since 1962, it serves Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties. In keeping with the national goals of the organization the focus is on five major program facets: Services to Youth (STY), The Arts, National Trends and Services (NTS), International Trends and Services (ITS), and Health and Human Services (HHS).

Additionally, the chapter is committed to rewarding the talents and academic achievement of our youth. Each year through its signature fund raiser – A Day at the Races – our scholarship and service programs are enhanced and substantial awards of more than $15,000 are given to academically deserving high school graduates Each member in the chapter volunteers her time and service and collectively helps to provide and enhance the quality of life throughthe chapter’s program services.
