Upon reopening, most of the Museum’s permanent halls will be open to the public, including galleries that contain such beloved icons as the Blue Whale, the Titanosaur, and T. rex and other fossils, as well as two special exhibitions, The Nature of Color and T. rex: The Ultimate Predator. In preparing for reopening, the health and safety of staff and visitors are top priorities, as the Museum continues to provide transformative experiences for visitors to learn, discover, and enjoy one another’s company.

On September 9, in addition to welcoming visitors back, the Museum will mark its reopening by highlighting critical components of its science and education mission, including:

  • welcoming a group of young children and their families from the Goddard Riverside Head Start, a preschool program that has partnered with the Museum or the Museum’s Science and and Nature Program for over 20 years, and;
  • featuring the Museum’s 2020 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate, Speculations on Alien Life on Earth and Across the Universe,a ticketed online event hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium. Throughout the pandemic, the Museum has presented a full slate of digital offerings for families, students, and the general public, and online content and programs for curious minds of all ages will continue to be offered after reopening.

The Museum will be open to the public Wednesday-Sunday, from 10 am to 5:30 pm, and attendance will be limited in the building to 25 percent of normal visitation to allow ample room for physical distancing. Facial coverings are required for all staff and visitors ages 2 and up. For more information on additional health and safety measures at the Museum, please click here.
