“Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg,” on view Oct. 1, 2021 – Jan. 23, 2022, honors the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG)—the trailblazing Supreme Court Justice and cultural icon—with a special exhibition based on the popular Tumblr and bestselling book of the same name.

The show takes an expansive and engaging look at the justice’s life and work, highlighting her ceaseless efforts to protect civil rights and foster equal opportunity for all Americans through archival photographs and documents, historical artifacts, contemporary art, media stations, and gallery interactives. Organized by the Skirball Cultural Center, this show debuted in Los Angeles.

Unique to New-York Historical’s presentation are remembrances from RBG’s visit to the Museum in 2018 to officiate a naturalization ceremony, a video featuring a map and photographs of key places in her life as a New Yorker, and an overview of the memorials that cropped up around her hometown in the wake of her passing.

The event will feature remarks by Louise Mirrer, president and CEO of the New-York Historical Society, an exhibition tour led by curators Laura Mogulescu, curator of women’s history collections, and Anna Danzinger Halperin, Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Women’s History and Public History, Center for Women’s History.

As part of New York City’s Key to NYC program, all visitors to New York City museums are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Visitors who are under 12 years old—and therefore ineligible for vaccination—are exempt from the requirement, but must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult. In order to enter the Museum, you are required to show proof that you have received at least one vaccination dose with a vaccine approved by the World Health Organization and a matching photo ID. Proof of vaccination may include a valid paper vaccination record, a photo of a valid vaccination record, the NYC COVID Safe App, or the New York State Excelsior Pass.
