The Conference of National Black Churches (CNBC), under the leadership of Chairman Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson, will co-sponsor the inaugural Historically Black College University (HBCU) New York City Football Classic game between the Howard University Bison and the Morehouse College Tigers, on Saturday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The first edition of the HBCU NYC Football Classic renews the historic rivalry between Howard and Morehouse, who have faced each other on the football field 37 times dating back to 1923. The teams last met in 2015, when Howard claimed a 25-17 victory at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The game’s halftime show will feature a public service announcement from Dr. Richardson, when he will provide information on COVID-19 and Monkey  Pox resources.

“The century-old rivalry between these historic institutions will be renewed this Saturday, with a game that’s sure to be one for the ages. Members of CNBC could not be more excited to be a part of the pageantry and tradition of the HBCU game day experience. While this is no doubt a cause for celebration, the Football Classic is a reminder that winter is coming and we must remain vigilant when it comes to our health. It’s imperative that we continue to educate as many individuals as we can – particularly the most disenfranchised group, which are people of color – about the precautions they should take. The most effective way to reach the masses is to meet people where they are, so we are meeting folks on the football field,” stated Dr. Richardson.

CNBC is comprised of the national leadership of the largest historically Black denominations in America. The organization represents more than 80% of African American Christians across this nation that have a combined membership of over 20 million people and 30,000 congregations.
