Movie Review: ‘Air’

“From award-winning director Ben Affleck, this new film Air reveals the unbelievable game-changing partnership between a then rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture. This moving story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would become the greatest of all time.”-Amazon Studios

This star-studded film features a long list of Hollywood notables, such as Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Julius Tennon, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis. Viola Davis along with Julius Tennon, her actor/producer husband, play Jordan’s mother and father; Damon is Sonny Vaccaro. Tucker portrays Howard White, and Bateman is Rob Strasser–execs at Nike. Messina is David Falk, Jordan’s agent; Wayans plays George Raveling, Jordan’s former Olympics coach; and Affleck plays Nike co-founder and former CEO, Phil Knight.

Air, a witty film laden with skillfully comedic and affectionately nuanced references to ’80’s culture, effortlessly immerses its viewers into a moment in time – almost 40 years ago – where behind the scenes activities and negotiations gave rise to Nike’s sneaker empire and its inspiration – basketball’s G.O.A.T. –  Michael “Air” Jordan.  This relatable and enjoyable film is a must see for ALL – especially basketball heads and sneaker enthusiasts!
