
The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has announced the winners and special honorees for the 7th Annual AAFCA TV Honors, which will take place on August 23 at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
Leading this year’s honors are standout series “Forever” (Netflix), “Paradise” (Hulu), and “Matlock” (CBS), each earning multiple accolades. Sterling K. Brown won Best Actor for “Paradise,” and Kathy Bates took home Best Actress for her performance in “Matlock.” The critically acclaimed “Forever” swept Best Writing, Best Director, and Best New Show.
Other major wins include:
- Best Comedy: Harlem (Amazon Prime)
- Best Documentary: Number One on the Call Sheet (Apple TV+)
- Best Limited Series: The Big Cigar (Apple TV+)
- Best Reality: Gen Zone (BET+)
- Best Ensemble: Bel-Air (Peacock)
- Best TV Movie: The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat (Hulu)
- Breakthrough Talent: Skye P. Marshall, Matlock
AAFCA also unveiled its Top Ten Television Programs of 2025, led by Forever, Paradise, Cross, and Harlem.
In addition to the awards, AAFCA will honor seven influential television figures for their contributions to the industry:
- Keith Le Goy, Chairman of Sony Pictures Television, will receive the TV Vanguard Award.
- Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, will be recognized with the Salute to Excellence Award.
- Tina Perry, President of OWN TV, will receive the Visionary Award.
- Mara Brock Akil, celebrated producer and writer, will be honored with the Legacy Award.
- Michelle Buteau, actress and comedian, earns the Trailblazer Award.
- Nneka Onuorah, Emmy-winning director, receives the Horizon Award.
- Denise Nicholas, acclaimed actress and author, will be presented with the TV Icon Award.
