Delta Expands LAX Gateway with New Nonstop Service to Hong Kong and Chicago

Delta Air Lines is further solidifying its position as the largest global carrier at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with the announcement of two major route additions: daily nonstop flights to Hong Kong (HKG) beginning June 6, 2026, and three daily nonstop flights to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) starting June 7, 2026. The move underscores Delta’s continued investment in LAX as a premier coastal gateway for both international and domestic travel.

“Launching service to Hong Kong and Chicago from LAX strengthens our presence in two of the world’s most dynamic markets,” said Paul Baldoni, Delta’s SVP of Network Planning. “We’re continuing to invest in routes that matter to our customers and deliver the premium travel experience they’ve come to expect from Delta.”

Opening the Gateway to Hong Kong

Hong Kong remains one of the world’s most sought-after destinations, attracting travelers with its iconic skyline, vibrant neighborhoods, and rich cultural diversity. Delta’s new nonstop route connects Los Angeles directly to this global hub while unlocking 30+ one-stop connections from LAX.

Beyond passenger demand, the route enhances Delta Cargo’s transpacific network, leveraging the Airbus A350-900 widebody aircraft, which can carry 20+ tons of cargo per flight. This new freight corridor strengthens supply chains for high-value shipments such as electronics, e-commerce, and perishables, while deepening Delta’s joint venture with Korean Air to expand connectivity across Asia.

Connecting Two Powerhouse Cities: LAX to Chicago O’Hare

Delta’s new LAX–Chicago O’Hare service links two of the nation’s most influential cities. With three daily flights, the route caters to both business and leisure travelers, offering Angelenos seamless access to Chicago’s finance, manufacturing, and culinary scene while providing Midwestern customers direct entry into LA’s tech, entertainment, and transpacific network.

Enhanced Travel Experience at LAX

Travelers flying Delta One to Hong Kong will enjoy exclusive access to the Delta One Lounge at LAX, featuring chef-curated menus, a year-round sushi bar, wellness rooms, and premium seating. In Chicago, eligible customers can relax at the 22,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club in Terminal 5, part of a $50M terminal enhancement.

Onboard, flights to Hong Kong feature Delta One lie-flat suites, Delta Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin options, while Chicago routes operate on the Boeing 737-800 with seatback entertainment, free Wi-Fi, and power outlets at every seat.

Delta’s Ongoing Commitment to LAX

These expansions build on Delta’s broader $2.3B transformation at LAX, including the award-winning Sky Way at LAX and modernized Terminal 3. As an inaugural Founding Partner of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Official Airline of Team USA, Delta continues to deepen its roots in Los Angeles — connecting travelers from the West Coast to destinations worldwide.

With Hong Kong’s skyline and Chicago’s cityscape now within easier reach, Delta is elevating LAX’s status as a premier global hub — giving Angelenos and global travelers alike more ways to connect, explore, and experience the world.
