Dr. Donna Adams-Pickett, a board-certified OB/GYN and nationally recognized advocate for women’s health, is reshaping the way women approach their reproductive and overall wellness. Known for her expertise and compassionate care, she addresses a wide range of women’s health issues, from gynecologic cancer awareness and reproductive health advocacy to menopause management.
Her motivation to enter the field of obstetrics was deeply personal. After losing her paternal grandmother in childbirth, Dr. Adams-Pickett witnessed the impact that experience had on her father and community. This early exposure to the anxieties surrounding pregnancy inspired her to help women navigate this life stage with knowledge and confidence. Over time, she expanded her focus to address the broader, often complicated relationship society has with female reproductive health — a relationship she believes is hindered by a lack of education and open communication.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Adams-Pickett is a vocal supporter of Black maternal health. She has founded a community of more than 800 OB/GYNs and OB-trained family practitioners of color, emphasizing the importance of culturally competent care. She also developed a clinically based doula training program to prepare more birth workers to guide Black patients through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum recovery. Her advocacy includes participating in documentaries that address the urgent need to protect women — particularly Black women — during childbirth.
The driving force behind her foundation is her belief that education is the cornerstone of improved healthcare outcomes for women. She has been struck by how many women and girls lack familiarity with their bodies and the best practices for maintaining health. Through the foundation, she provides educational resources for women of all ages, aiming to create a generation more informed and empowered than previous ones.
Dr. Adams-Pickett’s programs extend to young boys as well, promoting respect for women and awareness of their vital role in society. Her vision for the foundation includes expanding the doula program, launching a “coming of age” camp for girls at pivotal life stages, and offering educational forums for women who missed opportunities to learn about their health earlier in life.
By combining medical expertise with public education, Dr. Adams-Pickett continues to make a lasting impact, ensuring women have the knowledge, resources, and confidence to take charge of their health at every stage of life.
