Mira Sorvino Joins Broadway’s ‘Chicago’ as Roxie Hart

Broadway’s longest-running American musical is adding a new star to its roster. Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino will take on the iconic role of Roxie Hart in Chicago beginning Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Ambassador Theatre. Sorvino’s limited run will continue through Sunday, November 2, 2025.

Sorvino, who first captured Hollywood’s attention with her Oscar-winning performance in Woody Allen’s Mighty Aphrodite, expressed her excitement at making her Broadway musical debut. “I have wished to dance and sing in a Broadway musical since I was a small child,” she said. “To join Chicago, such a legendary show, and such an incredible cast past and present, is literally a dream come true!!”

Her turn as Roxie Hart adds a new dimension to a career that spans both screen and television. Most recently, Sorvino has been seen in the Starz horror-comedy Shining Vale, as well as Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story: Impeachment and Hollywood. Her wide-ranging filmography includes Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Beautiful Girls, Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam, Guillermo del Toro’s Mimic, and Antoine Fuqua’s The Replacement Killers. Upcoming projects include Sound of Freedom and Lamborghini.

Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, Chicago is already a record-breaking Broadway phenomenon. The revival, which opened in 1996, is the winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording. With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the show is staged by Tony Award winners Walter Bobbie (direction) and Ann Reinking (choreography).

Set in the jazz-fueled decadence of the 1920s, Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who kills her lover and schemes her way out of conviction. With the help of Chicago’s slickest lawyer, she transforms her crime into a media sensation, exposing the blurred line between celebrity and scandal.

Now celebrating its place as the #1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history, Chicago continues to captivate audiences with its biting satire, sultry choreography, and unforgettable score. With Sorvino stepping into Roxie’s shoes this fall, the show promises another electrifying chapter in its storied legacy.
