Anchored along the Hudson River at Pier 86 in New York City, the Intrepid Museum is more than just a destination—it is a living tribute to history, innovation, and service. Since opening in 1982, the museum has become a cornerstone of New York’s cultural landscape, drawing more than one million visitors annually from around the globe. At its heart is the legendary WWII aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark that embodies both the sacrifices of the past and the spirit of discovery.

The Intrepid Museum was founded with a mission to honor heroes, educate the public, and inspire future generations by promoting awareness and understanding of history, science, and service. Its exhibits bring together the best of immersive storytelling, STEM exploration, and historical preservation. Visitors can walk the decks of Intrepid, marvel at Enterprise, the world’s first space shuttle, and step inside Growler, the only nuclear-missile submarine open to the public. The museum’s extensive aircraft collection includes everything from supersonic spy planes to the iconic Concorde—the world’s fastest passenger jet.

But beyond the machinery lies the true soul of the museum: the stories of courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the men and women who served. Guided by its core values of integrity, innovation, and inclusivity, the Intrepid Museum ensures that history is not only preserved but also made accessible to everyone. Through nationally recognized programming, the museum serves underserved communities, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, including autism and dementia. Each year, more than 55,000 students participate in after-school, professional development, and STEM programs, making the museum a vital educational hub.

Currently, the museum is captivating audiences with its expansive bilingual exhibition, Mysteries from the Deep: Exploring Underwater Archaeology, on view through Jan. 11, 2026. Spanning over 9,000 square feet, this exhibit, co-produced with Flying Fish, uses cutting-edge technology to uncover hidden histories beneath the sea, offering interactive, hands-on experiences for all ages.

At the Intrepid Museum, history truly meets innovation, ensuring that the lessons of the past continue to inspire the future.
