Seasoned storyteller, vocalist and songwriter Syndee Winters continues to chart her own dynamic path through music, theater, and education.

The New York-born artist, of Jamaican and Chinese heritage, has long stood out as a multifaceted performer whose work transcends boundaries. From Broadway’s biggest stages to international concert halls, Winters has built a career defined by versatility, innovation, and soul.

She has even impressed the likes of the legendary Stevie Wonder.

In 2024, Winters captivated the global jazz community as the first runner-up in the Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Jazz Competition, solidifying her emergence as a rising force in the genre. Her latest project, Syndee Winters Sings Lena Horne, honors one of jazz’s greatest icons while reimagining the classics for a modern audience. The album — now climbing the Top 50 on Jazz Radio — showcases 10 tracks from the Great American Songbook, each reinterpreted through Winters’ vibrant, contemporary jazz lens.

Winters’ artistry extends beyond the studio. She has shared her powerhouse voice with some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Taiwan Philharmonic, Utah Symphony, Boston Pops, National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, and the LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl.

Never one to be confined by genre, Winters co-created the R&B duo Butterfly Black with Grammy-winning bassist Ben Williams. Their 11-track LP, BLACKPOP, blends funk, soul, and jazz into a modern soundscape that speaks to love, empowerment, and Black creativity. Her voice has also been featured on the Grammy-nominated original cast recording of Jesus Christ Superstar Live! on NBC and collaborations with hip-hop legends Snoop Dogg, Big Daddy Kane, and Grandmaster Flash.

Broadway audiences know Winters for her commanding presence in iconic productions, including The Lion King, where she brought depth and grace to the role of Nala; Motown the Musical; Pippin; and Hamilton, where she masterfully performed as all three Schuyler Sisters.

Beyond the spotlight, Winters invests deeply in the next generation of performers. Through her educational platform, ROAR School, she empowers aspiring artists to be Resourceful, Optimistic, Authentic, and Reliable — principles that have inspired creative confidence in young performers around the world.

A proud Five Towns College alumnus, Winters has been recognized for her outstanding artistic achievements and ongoing commitment to arts education.
