Classic Stage Company (CSC), led by Producing Artistic Director Jill Rafson, has unveiled the complete cast for its highly anticipated production of The Baker’s Wife. Featuring a book by Tony Award® winner Joseph Stein (Fiddler on the Roof), music and lyrics by Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award® winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, The Queen of Versailles), and direction by Gordon Greenberg (The Heart of Rock and Roll), the musical begins previews October 23, with opening night set for November 11 at CSC’s Lynn F. Angelson Theater.
Joining the previously announced Scott Bakula as Aimable Castagnet and Ariana DeBose as Geneviève are an ensemble of Broadway favorites and rising stars: Savannah Lee Birdsong, Arnie Burton, Robert Cuccioli, Alma Cuervo, Kevin Del Aguila, Bill English, Zachary Freier-Harrison, Samantha Marisol Gershman, Nathan Lee Graham, Judy Kuhn, Kelly Lester, Sally Murphy, Manu Narayan, Mason Olshavsky, Kevin William Paul, Will Roland, and Hailey Thomas.
Opening CSC’s 2025–2026 season, The Baker’s Wife marks the musical’s first full-scale New York City production since its 1976 debut. Based on the beloved French film La Femme du Boulanger by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono, the show brings to life a tender story of love, loyalty, and temptation in a small French village where fresh bread—and even fresher gossip—are part of daily life.
When the baker’s wife is lured away by a handsome young man, the baker’s despair throws the entire town into disarray. What follows is a heartfelt and humorous journey toward forgiveness and renewal, underscored by Schwartz’s lush and memorable score, which features the celebrated ballad “Meadowlark.”
The creative team includes Stephanie Klemons (Choreography), Charlie Alterman (Music Direction), Jason Sherwood (Set Design), Catherine Zuber (Costume Design), Bradley King (Lighting Design), and Jason Crystal (Sound Design). Casting is by The Telsey Office (Craig Burns, CSA), with Libby J. Vera / LJPM serving as Production Manager and Jason Weixelman as Production Stage Manager.
Presented by special arrangement with The Menier Chocolate Factory (David Babani, Artistic Director), Creative Partners Productions, and Aaron Glick, The Baker’s Wife promises to be a delectable blend of romance, wit, and melody.
Individual tickets are now on sale at ClassicStage.org, with performances through Dec. 14.
