Children’s Theatre Company is bringing the magic of Oz back to the stage this spring, announcing the full cast and creative team for its highly anticipated production of The Wizard of Oz, set to run from April 21 through June 14.
The beloved classic will take over the UnitedHealth Group Stage in Minneapolis, with opening night scheduled for April 24 at 7 p.m. Directed by CTC Artistic Director Rick Dildine, the production promises a large-scale family spectacle filled with iconic songs, flying monkeys, a yellow brick road, and even Toto played by a real dog.
“This spring, we’re thrilled to bring the one and only The Wizard of Oz to the stage,” said Dildine. “This beloved production resonates across generations, touching on themes of self-discovery, courage, and the power of friendship. Dorothy’s journey to find her way home is a timeless story of growth and resilience.”
He added, “Few stories have had such an enduring impact, and I’ve been dreaming of this production for a decade. We’re especially excited to have Autumn Ness star as the shoe-obsessed Wicked Witch of the West!”
The adult cast features Becca Claire Hart as Aunt Em and Glinda the Witch of the North, Reed Sigmund as Zeke and the Cowardly Lion, Regina Marie Williams as Hickory and the Tin Man, Dean Holt as Hunk and the Scarecrow, and Autumn Ness as Almira Gultch and the Wicked Witch of the West.
JoeNathan Thomas takes on the role of Professor Marvel and the Wizard of Oz, while Riley McNutt appears as Uncle Henry, Gatekeeper, and ensemble.
The role of Dorothy will be alternated by student performers Aniya Bostick and Harriet Spencer, joined by a large student ensemble that includes Aliya Bailey, Truman Bednar, Brody Breen, Zhandile Chidothe, Charles Foster, Morgan Houser, Wren Lillian Hatling, Addica Sharbono, George Wellens, and Julia Wissink.
Music direction and orchestrations are by Victor Zupanc, with choreography by Christopher Windom. Scenic design comes from Adam Koch, costume design by Lex Liang, and lighting design by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew.
Based on the classic motion picture and adapted from L. Frank Baum’s original story, the production includes music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg.
Recommended for all ages, the show runs approximately two hours with one 15-minute intermission. Ticket prices start at $25, with lap passes available for children 3 and younger.
For families looking for a multigenerational theater experience, the journey down the yellow brick road is officially ready to begin.
