Cricket enthusiasts looking for more than just matchday excitement have a new reason to visit Jamaica this summer. As the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) returns to Kingston from Aug. 11–18, the Jamaica Tourist Board is encouraging international visitors to combine world-class T20 cricket with the island’s beaches, cuisine, music, and cultural attractions.
The weeklong tournament marks the Jamaica Kingsmen’s home debut at the historic Sabina Park, one of the Caribbean’s most celebrated cricket venues. Four home fixtures are scheduled during the tournament, with the Kingsmen facing the Barbados Tridents on Aug. 11, Guyana Amazon Warriors on Aug. 13, Trinbago Knight Riders on Aug. 15, and St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots on Aug. 18. Each match begins at 7 p.m. local time.
Fans can expect an impressive lineup of cricket stars, including Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, and Sunil Narine, with additional international players from England, Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka expected to be announced.
But organizers say the experience extends well beyond the boundary ropes.
“Cricket has always been part of Jamaica’s soul, and the CPL gives us an incredible opportunity to showcase the very best of our island to the world,” said Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett. “We are proud to welcome visitors not just as spectators, but as guests of Jamaica.”
The Jamaica Tourist Board is positioning the tournament as the centerpiece of a broader island adventure. Visitors can spend evenings cheering at Sabina Park before exploring Kingston’s vibrant nightlife, live reggae venues, local restaurants, and cultural attractions. By day, travelers can venture into the Blue Mountains, tour museums celebrating Jamaica’s musical heritage, or sample authentic jerk cuisine and local specialties.
For those extending their stay, destinations such as Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, and Negril offer luxury resorts, white-sand beaches, river rafting, zip-lining, snorkeling, and world-famous sunsets along Seven Mile Beach.
Recognizing the strong cricket connection between the United Kingdom and Jamaica, tour operator Sackville Travel has created an 11-night vacation package running from Aug. 8–19. Starting at £2,360 per person, the package covers the full Jamaica fixture schedule, allowing visitors to experience both the excitement of the Caribbean Premier League and the island’s diverse attractions. Match tickets are sold separately.
As sports tourism continues to grow, Jamaica is betting that the combination of elite cricket, Caribbean hospitality, and unforgettable scenery will create an experience that extends far beyond the final innings.
For travelers seeking sunshine, sport, and culture in one destination, this August’s Caribbean Premier League offers an opportunity to experience Jamaica at its most energetic—and most welcoming.
