Drivers looking to add dash cam protection without cluttering their vehicle with additional screens or complicated equipment now have a new option from Ottocast.
The company’s Ottosafe Cam, priced at $149, combines a 2K QHD dash camera with a built-in wireless Apple CarPlay adapter, allowing drivers to access and manage camera footage through their vehicle’s existing infotainment display.
The device is designed to eliminate some of the inconvenience associated with traditional dash cams. Instead of removing an SD card or opening a separate smartphone app to review footage, drivers can access recordings directly through the vehicle’s screen. Users can review and save clips, manage recordings and switch between the live road view and other CarPlay functions.
The system is designed for vehicles equipped with factory-wired Apple CarPlay and models from 2016 and newer. Ottocast says the device can be installed using a plug-and-play setup while maintaining existing vehicle controls.
The camera records in 2K QHD resolution and features enhanced night vision for recording in different lighting conditions. Its adjustable 130-degree wide-angle view is designed to capture a broader section of the road.
For situations involving an accident or sudden impact, the Ottosafe Cam includes event detection supported by a built-in G-sensor. When an impact is detected, the system can automatically lock the relevant footage to help prevent it from being overwritten.
The device also includes a double-tap instant capture function, allowing drivers to quickly save a moment while on the road. An optional 24-hour parking surveillance feature is available with a separately sold hardwire kit.
Beyond recording the road, the camera offers cabin visibility, which could be useful for families and drivers who want to monitor passengers. The feature adds another potential use for the device beyond documenting traffic incidents.
The wireless CarPlay component allows drivers to connect their iPhones without relying on a separate adapter. Once connected, drivers can use familiar CarPlay functions such as navigation, calls and music while also accessing the dash cam.
Ottocast says the camera and wireless CarPlay adapter can be used together or separately depending on the driver’s setup. However, the camera is designed to work only with the wireless CarPlay adapter included with the product and is not compatible with other adapters.
The company is positioning the Ottosafe Cam as an upgrade for drivers who want to add both dash cam functionality and wireless connectivity without installing multiple devices.
Priced at $149, the system brings recording, safety features and wireless CarPlay into a single device. For commuters, road-trippers and families, the combination could provide a simpler way to document the road while keeping everyday vehicle technology accessible from one screen.
