For generations, science and faith have often been portrayed as competing ways of understanding the world. Scientist and author Nathanael-Israel Israel, Ph.D., is challenging that conventional divide with a new book that argues the two can coexist—and potentially inform one another.
In Boldest Scientific Formula of God and Creation, Israel presents what he describes as a mathematical framework connecting scientific observations with the biblical account of creation. The book, released April 24, 2026, aims to make the discussion accessible not only to scientists but also to students, families, believers, nonbelievers and anyone interested in questions about the origins of the universe.
Israel argues that scientific inquiry should not automatically exclude questions traditionally associated with faith. Instead, he believes researchers should remain open to unconventional ideas, particularly when investigating some of humanity’s biggest unanswered questions.
“I want Americans and the rest of the world to discover that faith and science can coexist and help one another,” Israel said. “Science does not undermine faith, and faith does not undermine science.”
Among the book’s central claims is a mathematical formula that Israel says can be used to calculate the formation periods of the Earth, moon and sun. According to his theory, the Earth formed in 2.82 days, the moon in 3.32 days and the sun in 3.69 days. He argues that these calculations correspond with the sequence described in the biblical Book of Genesis.
The book also claims that the formula can provide scientific evidence for God’s existence and offers an alternative framework for thinking about the relationship between faith and scientific theories.
Those claims are likely to generate discussion because they challenge widely accepted scientific explanations about the origins and development of the universe. Israel’s work is therefore positioned not simply as a religious argument, but as an attempt to use mathematics and scientific reasoning to engage questions traditionally addressed through theology.
“The war between reason and religion was never necessary,” Israel said.
Israel is the founder of Science180, an organization focused on questions at the intersection of science and faith. Originally from Benin Republic in West Africa, he earned undergraduate degrees there before relocating to the United States, where he received a Ph.D. in Plant, Insect and Microbial Sciences.
He is the author of more than 10 books addressing science, creation, cosmology and religion. He also maintains memberships in several scientific organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Chemical Society, American Physical Society and American Mathematical Society.
