Cloud computing, infrastructure and data skills continue to dominate the U.S. technology job market, according to a new analysis of roughly 850,000 tech job postings by web intelligence company Oxylabs.

The study examined U.S. technology job listings published between January 2025 and March 2026 to determine which software, platforms and technical tools employers were requesting most often. The findings suggest that despite the attention surrounding artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, employers continue to place significant value on foundational technology skills.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) appeared in 30% of the job postings analyzed, making it the most frequently requested technology. Microsoft Azure followed at 24%, while Git appeared in 21% of listings.
Other frequently mentioned tools included Excel at 15%, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes at 14% each, Docker at 13%, Power BI at 9%, Terraform at 8% and Tableau at 7%.
Overall, nearly 42% of the postings required knowledge of at least one major cloud platform. AWS and Azure were also the most frequently co-mentioned cloud platforms, appearing together in 15% of job descriptions.
The findings point to a technology employment market heavily concentrated around infrastructure. Cloud platforms accounted for 47% of all tool mentions in the study, followed by DevOps and developer experience tools at 30%. Business intelligence and analytics tools represented another 18%.
“Cloud, infrastructure, and data skills are in high demand,” said Andrius Kūkšta, tech lead at Oxylabs. He noted that the analysis also showed some highly visible technologies receiving less attention in actual job postings than their prominence online might suggest.
Hiring Activity Picks Up
The analysis also found a significant increase in tech job postings during the first quarter of 2026. Jobs posted during the quarter represented 39% of the entire dataset, or 3.7 times the activity recorded during the same period a year earlier.
Software engineering positions accounted for the largest share of postings at 38%. Data science and AI/machine learning roles represented 14%, while technology and engineering management accounted for another 14%. DevOps and cloud positions made up 12%.
The research also identified differences in the types of tools employers sought across job categories. Data storage and infrastructure technologies, including AWS, Azure and GCP, dominated overall requirements. DevOps tools such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform followed.
Data ingestion and transformation tools, including dbt, Fivetran, Kafka and Airbyte, represented 4% of mentions, while orchestration and observability tools such as Airflow accounted for 1%.
Geographically, California generated 13% of postings, followed by Texas at 8% and New York at 5%. Virginia stood out for its concentration of technology employment, with nearly three times as many tech jobs per capita as the national average, driven in part by its large data center industry.
