New York City’s iconic St. Patrick’s Cathedral will become the setting for an immersive celebration of light, music and history when LUMINISCENCE opens to the public Oct. 1.
Presented by Banijay Americas and created by LOTCHI, LUMINISCENCE will transform the landmark cathedral through 360-degree video mapping, live choral performances, orchestral music and narration from actor Jonathan Roumie, best known for his role in The Chosen.
The immersive experience invites audiences to see St. Patrick’s Cathedral in a new way while exploring its history and significance to New York City and the Catholic community. Performances will take place on select dates through the end of 2026, with both LUMINISCENCE and LUMINISCENCE Live Plus experiences available.
The Live Plus performances will feature a live choir and orchestra, while other performances will use recorded music and voice-over narration.
For Roumie, who was born and raised in New York, the opportunity has personal significance. He will provide the voice that guides audiences through the cathedral’s story and its role in the city.
St. Patrick’s Cathedral, located on Fifth Avenue between 50th and 51st streets, is one of New York’s most recognizable landmarks. Completed in 1878 after nearly two decades of construction, the Gothic Revival cathedral was designed by architect James Renwick Jr. Its twin spires, added in 1888, rise more than 330 feet above Fifth Avenue.
The cathedral is also home to a remarkable musical tradition. Its historic pipe organs were built by George Kilgen & Son and dedicated in 1928 and 1930. The Gallery Organ contains more than 7,500 pipes and has provided music at the cathedral for nearly a century.
Proceeds from LUMINISCENCE will support Renew the Living Voices: The Kilgen Organ Campaign, a fundraising effort dedicated to preserving and renovating the cathedral’s historic organ.
LUMINISCENCE launched in 2023 and has since welcomed more than 2 million visitors worldwide. The production has staged more than 20 experiences across eight countries, including France, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Brazil and the United States.
The New York production marks an expansion of the experience into another historic American setting, combining digital artistry and live performance with the architectural details of St. Patrick’s.
Tickets and performance information are available at LUMINISCENCE New York.
For New Yorkers and visitors, the production offers an opportunity to experience one of Manhattan’s most familiar landmarks through a combination of music, storytelling and immersive visual technology.
