The glamour, ambition and social rivalries of New York’s elite are returning to HBO this fall with the fourth season of the Emmy-nominated drama series “The Gilded Age.”
Created by Julian Fellowes, the Emmy-nominated series will premiere its eight-episode fourth season Sunday, Nov. 1, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
Set against the backdrop of New York’s high society, “The Gilded Age” continues to explore the battles over wealth, status, family and social acceptance among the city’s most influential residents.
Season 4 picks up after major changes in the social order, with Bertha Russell facing the consequences of her efforts to establish her family among New York’s elite. Her rise has come at a price, and the Russell family must now contend with the fallout.
Meanwhile, Agnes van Rhijn sees an opportunity to reclaim her position within society. Marian Brook is also preparing to forge a new path, while Peggy Scott works to gain acceptance from her future in-laws.
The new season promises another round of shifting alliances and personal ambitions as the characters navigate a changing social landscape. The season’s logline hints at the consequences that can come with pursuing power and influence: “In this new era, you must be careful what you wish for.”
The returning ensemble features Carrie Coon as Bertha Russell, Christine Baranski as Agnes van Rhijn and Cynthia Nixon as Ada Brook. Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson and Denée Benton also return, along with Taissa Farmiga, Harry Richardson, Blake Ritson, Ben Ahlers and Ashlie Atkinson.
The extensive Season 4 cast also includes Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Debra Monk, Kelli O’Hara, Phylicia Rashad, Dennis Haysbert, Elizabeth Marvel, Adrienne Warren, Andrew Burnap, Jim Gaffigan and Bill Camp.
The series continues its creative partnership behind the scenes, with Fellowes serving as creator, writer and executive producer. Salli Richardson-Whitfield serves as director and executive producer, while Sonja Warfield is writer and executive producer.
Executive producers include Gareth Neame, David Crockett, Bob Greenblatt, Kate Churchill, Davita Scarlett and Elaine Aronson. Erica Armstrong Dunbar and Holly Rymon serve as co-executive producers.
“The Gilded Age” is a co-production between HBO and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
With its lavish period setting and continuing conflicts over social standing, Season 4 is set to bring viewers back into a world where family fortunes, marriage prospects and social connections can determine who holds power — and who risks losing it.
