Emmy Winner Jeff Hiller to Star in Off-Broadway Comedy ‘The Exhibitionist’

Emmy Award-winning actor Jeff Hiller will return to the New York stage this November in The Exhibitionist, a solo comedy written by James Hindman and directed by Andrew Russell. The production will have a limited engagement of nine performances at SoHo Playhouse, offering audiences a 65-minute theatrical exploration of artistic ambition, insecurity and the desire to be seen.

Presented by Occasional Drawl, the production will run Nov. 9-21, 2026, with performances scheduled across select evenings and one Sunday afternoon. Tickets are on sale now.

Hiller, best known for his role as Joel in HBO’s comedy-drama Somebody Somewhere, won the 2025 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in the show. His television credits also include Widow’s Bay, Elsbeth, American Horror Story, 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. His film work includes Morning Glory, Greta and Set It Up.

In The Exhibitionist, Hiller plays Justin, an intern at the McMillon Museum of Art who is responsible for guiding visitors to an exhibition featuring a recently discovered painting by Vincent van Gogh. While Justin helps museum patrons appreciate the work of a celebrated artist, he is privately struggling with anxiety about his own artistic future.

On another floor of the museum, Justin’s artwork is being evaluated in a competition that could determine whether he gets the career opportunity he has long wanted. As the stakes rise, he must confront his fears about success, failure and whether his creative voice matters.

The play combines fast-paced comedy and theatrical storytelling with a more introspective examination of the challenges artists face. Beneath the humor is a story about the fear of becoming invisible and the courage required to continue pursuing a creative life despite uncertainty.

“I could not be more thrilled to be returning to the stage this fall with The Exhibitionist, a play that so beautifully represents exactly what it is to be an artist,” Hiller said. He also expressed enthusiasm about presenting the production at SoHo Playhouse, a venue he described as near and dear to his heart.

Hindman is an award-winning actor and playwright whose work includes the musical Pete ’n’ Keely, which received an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination and two Drama Desk nominations. His solo show What Doesn’t Kill You was extended at 59E59 Theaters in New York before being translated into French and performed in Paris and at the Avignon Festival.

Director Russell has developed new theatrical work across the country for two decades and previously served as producing artistic director of Seattle’s Intiman Theatre.

Scenic and costume design for The Exhibitionist is by Christopher Ford, with lighting design by Kate McGee and sound design by Peter Mills Weiss.

Performances take place at SoHo Playhouse, 15 Vandam St. Tickets are available at ExhibitionistPlay.com.
