Slurve Announces Debut Single ‘Progress’ Ahead of Long Island Live Debut

Long Island musicians Ian Kenny and Dominick D’Agostino are introducing their new musical project, Slurve, with the release of their debut single, “Progress,” on October 2.

The new project brings together two longtime musicians whose musical relationship began years ago while they were performing in different bands. After crossing paths and touring together, Kenny and D’Agostino developed a creative connection that eventually led them back into the studio.

When the two musicians reunited, their original plan was simple: write a few songs together. Instead, the sessions quickly expanded into a much larger collection of material, ultimately producing approximately 20 songs and giving birth to Slurve.

“We got in a room to write a couple songs,” the band shares. “Twenty songs later, Slurve was obvious. Nothing about it was forced. We just knew we’d found something worth seeing through.”

“Progress” serves as the introduction to the project, combining surging guitars, atmospheric synths and a melody shaped by several eras of alternative and rock music. The song draws from the melodic ambition associated with ’80s alternative music, the weight and imperfections of ’90s rock and the emotional immediacy of early 2000s music.

At the center of the track is a reflection on time, aging and the difference between simply getting older and actually moving forward. The lyrics explore the realization that circumstances can change while familiar memories, patterns and disappointments remain.

“‘Progress’ is about mistaking time passing for moving forward,” the band explains. “You get older, your life changes, but somehow you’re still carrying the same things with you. It’s about realizing that growth and letting go aren’t always the same thing.”

Kenny contributes vocals, keyboards and production, while D’Agostino handles guitar and bass. From Indian Lakes’ Joey Vannucchi contributed drums and mixed the track, with mastering completed by Matty Bedrosian of Little Shuteye Studio.

Slurve will celebrate the release with its debut live performance and single release event on October 10 at Stay Green Brewing Co. in Farmingdale, New York. The event will feature Adam Guzman, along with beer, food and local vendors including Meat the Mets BBQ, Fleeting Pleasures Floral Design and Viola’s Vintage.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with music beginning at 7:30 p.m.

“Progress” marks the first release from the larger collection of music created by Kenny and D’Agostino since reconnecting. The independently produced project remains rooted in their Long Island origins and their shared approach to songwriting: get together, follow the music and see where it leads.
