ResumeBuilder.com Survey Finds 4 in 10 Gen Zers Have Experienced Bullying Since Returning to the Office

A recent survey conducted by ResumeBuilder.com, the premier resource for professional resume templates and career advice, reveals concerning trends about workplace dynamics since the implementation of return-to-office (RTO) policies. The survey, which collected and analyzed responses from 557 employees who shifted to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic and now mandate in-office presence at least once a week, highlights significant issues of bullying and ‘creepy’ behavior in the workplace.

According to the survey findings, 30 percent of respondents reported that their company culture has become toxic following the enforcement of RTO policies. This sentiment was found to be consistent across different genders and age groups. Additionally, 21 percent of employees reported instances of bullying, and 28 percent encountered ‘creepy’ behavior since returning to the office. The survey defined ‘creepy’ behavior as actions or comments that induce discomfort or fear.

The survey revealed that Gen Z employees are particularly affected by these negative experiences. Thirty-eight percent of Gen Zers reported experiencing bullying, while 46 percent reported encountering ‘creepy’ behavior since their return to the office. This makes Gen Z the most likely group to report such incidents compared to other age groups.

Julia Toothacre, ResumeBuilder’s Resume and Career Strategist, commented on these findings: “I think Gen Z is more aware of what bullying or creepy behavior looks like than previous generations. Gen Z is self-aware, protective, and well-versed in therapy language. While older generations were told to just deal with it and rarely went against the organization, Gen Z will leave if they aren’t treated well.”

The survey, conducted in February 2024, included 557 participants who work at companies that transitioned to remote work during the recent pandemic and now require in-office attendance at least once a week. For more detailed findings and insights, visit the complete report at ResumeBuilder.com.
