Vaughan Anoa’i, a junior at Georgetown University and rising star in USA Volleyball, is gaining recognition not only for her athletic achievements but also for her growing philanthropic impact. As a two-time USA Volleyball Junior National Championships Gold Medalist and the first Samoan and Black volleyball recruit in Georgetown history, Vaughan is committed to expanding access to a sport she loves—and to giving back in meaningful ways.

Volleyball is one of the most popular sports for female athletes, ranking just behind track and field in participation and ahead of basketball and soccer. With 90% of participants being female, volleyball has steadily grown over the past two decades. Vaughan is determined to keep that momentum going by advocating for inclusivity and accessibility in the sport.

Through her charity, Vaughan’s Block Back, she is funding opportunities for girls from all backgrounds to participate in club volleyball. Drawing from the Samoan tradition of Fa’alavelave—a cultural practice of communal giving—Vaughan has saved her own allowance and personal gifts to support her mission. Her efforts have already made an impact in Los Angeles and are now reaching the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area.

To date, Vaughan has donated over $10,000 to various volleyball clubs. Most recently, she made a significant contribution to Starlings Volleyball, USA, in Falls Church, Virginia, an organization focused on empowering at-risk girls through volleyball. In addition to her work in sports, Vaughan is currently working with Charlie’s Place, a community organization that supports the local unhoused population experiencing homelessness.

Her accolades extend beyond athletics. A member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, Vaughan holds the Samoan title of Princess Falenaoti—an honor that reflects her cultural heritage and leadership. She is also using her growing platform to raise awareness about her initiatives, recently appearing on NBC News Daily to discuss Vaughan’s Block Back.

With a powerful combination of academic excellence, athletic talent, and a deep commitment to service, Vaughan Anoa’i is using her voice and resources to elevate others. As she continues to grow within the sport, her legacy of generosity and leadership is already making a lasting impact—one block, one team, and one community at a time.
