Broadway favorite Krysta Rodriguez is heading back to the Great White Way in one of musical theater’s most coveted roles. The actress and singer will join the cast of Chicago as Roxie Hart beginning June 15, 2026, at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City.
Rodriguez takes over the role in Broadway’s longest-running American musical, bringing her extensive stage and screen experience to the iconic character whose quest for fame and freedom has captivated audiences for decades.
The announcement comes on the heels of Rodriguez’s acclaimed turn in Smash, the Broadway adaptation of the beloved NBC television series, where she portrayed fan-favorite character Ana Vargas. Over the years, Rodriguez has built an impressive résumé that spans Broadway, television, film and streaming projects.
Most recently, audiences saw her as Cinderella in the Broadway revival of Into the Woods. She also earned praise for her portrayal of Liza Minnelli in the Emmy Award-winning Netflix limited series Halston. Her television credits include Smash, Trial & Error, Younger, Gossip Girl, Quantico, and Daybreak.
Rodriguez’s Broadway career includes appearances in original or revival productions of Spring Awakening, In the Heights, The Addams Family, A Chorus Line, First Date, and Good Vibrations. She has also starred in productions at The Public Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, the Kennedy Center and other major venues across the country.
Her arrival adds another notable chapter to the remarkable legacy of Chicago, which remains one of Broadway’s most enduring successes. Featuring music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, the musical first premiered in 1975 before returning in its now-famous 1996 revival. That production continues to run today and has become the longest-running American musical in Broadway history.
Set in the Roaring Twenties, Chicago follows Roxie Hart, an ambitious nightclub dancer who finds herself on trial for murder. With the help of slick attorney Billy Flynn, Roxie transforms her criminal case into a media spectacle, sparking a rivalry with fellow inmate and vaudeville star Velma Kelly.
The current Broadway cast also features Sophie Carmen-Jones as Velma Kelly, Nik Walker as Billy Flynn, Jacqueline B. Arnold as Matron “Mama” Morton, Greg Hildreth as Amos Hart and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, Chicago remains a Broadway powerhouse, drawing audiences from around the world with its jazz-infused score, iconic choreography and timeless story of celebrity, scandal and ambition.
Tickets for Rodriguez’s performances are now available through the production’s official website and the Ambassador Theatre box office.
