One of the most celebrated vocal groups in music is heading to one of New York City’s most legendary stages.
Take 6, the Grammy-winning a cappella group praised by the late Quincy Jones as the “baddest vocal cats on the planet,” will perform a six-show residency at the Blue Note Jazz Club from June 19 through June 21 as part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival.
The appearance comes as the group enjoys a resurgence of attention, including a recent Instagram shoutout from Public Enemy co-founder and reality TV personality Flavor Flav. Flav praised the group’s extraordinary harmonies on social media, introducing many younger fans to a musical act that has spent decades setting the standard for vocal excellence.
For more than 40 years, Take 6 has been regarded as the gold standard of a cappella music. The group—Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Joel Kibble, Dave Thomas, Alvin Chea, and Khristian Dentley—has built a career blending gospel, jazz, R&B, and pop into a sound that remains unmatched.
Their impressive résumé includes 10 Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award, and induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Along the way, they have collaborated with some of music’s biggest names, including Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Whitney Houston, and Brian Wilson.
The group’s momentum continues to build. In recent years, Take 6 delivered standout performances on CBS specials honoring Paul Simon and The Beach Boys, earning praise for their renditions of “Homeless” and “Don’t Worry Baby.” They also completed successful tours throughout the United States and Europe, including performances alongside acclaimed musician Jacob Collier.
Fans attending the Blue Note shows may also get a glimpse of what’s next. Take 6 is preparing to release a new gospel single, “You Deserve It,” and is working on a new album, Rhapsody, scheduled for release in 2026. The project will feature the group’s signature interpretations of songs that helped define American jazz and popular music.
Founded in 1980 at Oakwood College in Alabama, Take 6 has survived changing musical eras while remaining true to its roots. Their ability to evolve without sacrificing quality has made them one of the most respected vocal groups in the world.
As they take the stage at the Blue Note, New York audiences will have the rare opportunity to experience six voices, countless accolades, and a musical legacy that continues to grow.
