Meet the 16-Year-Old Author Inspiring a New Generation of Women Through the Power of Shared Stories

Version 1.0.0

Most teenagers spend their free time scrolling social media, hanging out with friends, or thinking about college plans. At just 16 years old, California author Kavya Thakrar took a different path—one that led to the publication of her debut book, Bows and Ties, a collection of inspiring conversations with accomplished women from diverse backgrounds.

Released as a thoughtful guide for teens and young adults, Bows and Ties explores themes of success, identity, resilience, and personal growth through interviews with 19 women working across a wide range of professions. But what makes the book unique is not simply who is featured—it’s the way the stories are connected.

Thakrar designed the project so that each woman’s insights would inspire a question for the next interviewee, creating a continuous chain of dialogue. The result is a deeply personal and interconnected exploration of the challenges and triumphs that shape women’s lives.

“When I was planning the project, I made a list of every woman who inspired me,” Thakrar explained. That list grew to more than 100 names, including women she knew personally as well as public figures she admired. The 19 women who agreed to participate ultimately became the voices that fill the pages of Bows and Ties.

Among those featured are psychologist Dr. Deepika Chopra, astrologer and author Jenn Sinclair, Chinese functional acupuncturist Kacie Hill, attorney Astha Ghai, and numerous other professionals who candidly discuss ambition, setbacks, confidence, and self-discovery.

While each interview offers a distinct perspective, a common theme emerges throughout the book: success is rarely a solo journey. Instead, it is often shaped by mentorship, community, shared experiences, and the lessons learned from others.

For young readers navigating questions about their future, Bows and Ties offers something more meaningful than a traditional self-help guide. Rather than presenting a single blueprint for success, the book demonstrates that there are countless paths toward fulfillment and purpose.

Thakrar hopes readers will recognize themselves in the stories and feel empowered to define success on their own terms.

Part inspiration, part conversation, and part celebration of modern sisterhood, Bows and Ties arrives at a time when many young women are searching for authentic role models and meaningful connection. Through the voices of 19 remarkable women, one teenage author is reminding readers that while every journey is different, no one has to travel it alone.
