Travelers seeking more than a luxury beach vacation may find a unique blend of adventure and conservation at Eri Maldives, a resort in the North Malé Atoll that is turning ocean awareness into an immersive guest experience.

Through mid-July, the resort is hosting a series of marine-themed events tied to international environmental observances, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about ocean ecosystems while exploring some of the Maldives’ most vibrant underwater environments.

Unlike many destinations that spotlight sustainability only during special occasions, Eri Maldives has integrated marine stewardship into its daily operations. The resort’s ocean-focused programming is designed to educate guests about coral reefs, sea turtles, sharks and marine biodiversity while encouraging a deeper appreciation for the fragile ecosystems that surround the island.

The schedule began with Reef Awareness Day on June 1, featuring guided snorkeling safaris and conservation briefings that introduce visitors to the atoll’s coral habitats and marine life. Activities continue throughout June with events marking World Oceans Day and World Sea Turtle Day, offering educational presentations, snorkeling excursions and hands-on opportunities to observe wildlife in its natural environment.

One of the resort’s biggest attractions is its thriving population of resident sea turtles. The dive team has identified and cataloged 14 individual turtles using unique shell markings, flipper characteristics and carapace patterns. Guests often become invested in spotting these well-known residents, each with its own distinctive appearance and story.

Among the most recognizable turtles are Miss Torti, known for her unusual shell shape; Hank, whose partially developed hind flipper has made him a favorite among visitors; and Farfalle, whose shell markings resemble a constellation of stars. The resort recently documented Otto, its first recorded green sea turtle, a significant milestone highlighting the area’s biodiversity.

Guests can even participate in the discovery process. Visitors who encounter a previously undocumented turtle are given the opportunity to help name the animal, creating a personal connection to the resort’s conservation efforts.

The ocean awareness series continues into July with Shark Awareness Day activities that challenge common misconceptions about sharks through educational programs, trivia events and optional nighttime snorkeling and diving experiences.

Later in the month, PADI Women’s Dive Day will feature women-focused breathwork and free-diving introductions, followed by community gatherings celebrating female participation in marine exploration.

As travelers increasingly seek meaningful and environmentally conscious experiences, Eri Maldives is demonstrating how tourism and conservation can work hand in hand. By combining education, adventure and wildlife encounters, the resort offers guests a chance to leave with more than memories—they leave with a deeper understanding of the oceans that make the Maldives one of the world’s most extraordinary destinations.
