Adventure seekers looking to make the most of summer have another reason to head outdoors as Long Hollow Canopy Tours prepares for its busiest season with zip lines, aerial obstacle courses and panoramic views of northwestern Illinois.
Located near Galena, the outdoor attraction offers visitors a chance to experience the scenic Driftless Region from above, combining adrenaline-filled activities with the area’s wooded hills and rugged landscapes.
The park’s signature zipline tour takes guests soaring through the forest canopy on six ziplines, including its longest run stretching 1,250 feet. The guided experience also features a ride through off-road trails in a utility terrain vehicle (UTV), a 140-foot suspended sky bridge and the opportunity to rappel 40 feet from a tree platform. For those looking for an extra thrill, the final platform offers an optional free-fall jump before returning to the ground.
In addition to its zipline experience, Long Hollow’s Adventure Park challenges visitors with 40 elevated obstacles designed to test balance, coordination and endurance. Participants navigate suspended bridges, rope swings, balance beams and climbing elements while moving through the treetops. The course also includes two treehouses and concludes with dual racing ziplines that allow friends and family members to zip side by side.
The attraction is designed to appeal to a broad range of visitors, from first-time adventurers to experienced outdoor enthusiasts. Multiple course difficulty levels allow guests to choose experiences that match their comfort level and physical ability.
Abby Burt, owner and chief marketing officer of Applied Adventure, said summer is the ideal season for people to step outside their comfort zones and create lasting memories.
She described Long Hollow as more than an adventure park, calling it a destination where visitors can challenge themselves, enjoy the outdoors and experience the excitement of the season with friends and family.
Outdoor adventure tourism has continued to grow as more travelers seek active experiences that combine recreation with nature. Attractions such as zipline parks and aerial adventure courses have become popular alternatives to traditional sightseeing, particularly for families, groups and weekend travelers looking for unique activities.
