Two decades after helping define the sound of 2000s alternative rock, Taking Back Sunday is celebrating its landmark album Louder Now with a deluxe 20th anniversary edition arriving Oct. 16 through Craft Recordings.
Originally released in 2006, Louder Now marked a major turning point for the Long Island band. The group had already established a devoted following with its Platinum-certified debut, Tell All Your Friends, and 2004’s Where You Want to Be, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. With Louder Now, Taking Back Sunday expanded its sound while maintaining the emotional intensity that had connected with fans.
The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and became the band’s highest-charting album at the time. It also earned Gold certification within two months of release. Songs including “MakeDamnSure,” “What’s It Feel Like to Be a Ghost?” and “Liar (It Takes One to Know One)” became defining tracks of the era and enduring staples of the band’s live performances.
Produced by Eric Valentine, Louder Now featured bigger choruses, heavier guitars and darker textures, helping Taking Back Sunday reach a broader audience. The album was also named Kerrang!’s Album of the Year in 2006.
The anniversary edition will feature the original album along with two bonus B-sides, “Brooklyn (If You See Something, Say Something)” and “Sleep.” The songs will appear on an exclusive 7-inch included with the vinyl edition and will be added to the deluxe CD.
The vinyl release will be available in several limited-edition variants, including Silver Screen, Burgundy Metallic, Coke Bottle Clear, Amazonite Swirl and Umber Brown. A standalone Oxblood pressing of the original album also will be available through select stores.
The anniversary celebration extends beyond the reissue. Taking Back Sunday has embarked on a major touring year, including appearances at the returning Vans Warped Tour, Louder Than Life, Shaky Knees and Riot Fest, where the band will perform Louder Now in full. The group will also headline a special anniversary performance at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
The 2026 touring lineup has added another connection to the album’s history, with guitarist and vocalist Fred Mascherino, who played with the band during the Where You Want to Be and Louder Now eras, returning to the stage alongside Adam Lazzara, John Nolan and Shaun Cooper.
As Taking Back Sunday revisits the album that helped define its career, Louder Now continues to demonstrate the lasting influence of the band’s music on alternative rock and the generation that grew up with it.
