Hempstead, New York – Black Men from throughout the Eastern New York area gathered in Hempstead, New York on April 19th, 2023 to have a dialogue concerning breaking down barriers to Mental Healthcare.  The panel was the brainchild of 100 Black Men of Eastern New York, and it was comprised of a diverse group of men all members of the 100 Black Men of Eastern New York, Inc.

This groundbreaking healthcare series is one of 100 Black Men of America, Inc.’s signature programs, and falls under one of the tenants of its FOUR FOR THE FUTURE programmatic mission.  The Health and Wellness series is a part of our ongoing commitment to empower the community that we were chartered to serve in Eastern New York.

In addition to this panel, the “100” will be presenting their “Let’s Talk About It Series” to a wider segment of the community.  Health and Wellness needs to one of our top priorities as a community; for without health there is no wealth.  Health and Wellness educational programs will also be a vital component of our mentoring programs.

“We live in a culture that is bent on silencing and desensitizing Black men, making them think that it is unmanly to feel. Black men must learn how to break their silence, learn how to feel again, speak their pain, and not simply rely on self-medicating practices.

Noel Simms, 100 Black Men of Eastern New York, Inc. Vice President of Education

The “Let’s Talk About It” series encourages critical and courageous conversations around Black male trauma and mental health, involving everyone in communities impacted by the lives of Black men.” So, “Let’s Talk About It.” If we don’t talk about these issues, we will never fully be about it.  Noel Simms 100 Black Men of Eastern New York V.P of Education
