Film at Lincoln Center Announces the North American Premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt as the Opening Night of the 63rd New York Film Festival

Film at Lincoln Center has announced that the North American premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s highly anticipated drama After the Hunt will open the 63rd New York Film Festival (NYFF63) on Sept. 26 at Alice Tully Hall, presented in partnership with Rolex. Guadagnino and members of the star-studded cast will attend the premiere.

Running from Sept. 26 through Oct. 13, NYFF63 continues its tradition of celebrating the most daring, thought-provoking, and masterfully crafted films from around the world. Tickets are available now via festival passes, with single-ticket sales opening to the public on Sept. 18 and early pre-sale access for Film at Lincoln Center Members and Pass holders.

In After the Hunt, Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name, Challengers, Bones and All) explores the tangled moralities of modern power, privilege, and identity. Julia Roberts delivers one of her most complex performances as Alma Olsson, a Yale philosophy professor whose carefully constructed life unravels after her protégé (Ayo Edebiri) accuses Alma’s longtime friend and colleague (Andrew Garfield) of sexual assault. As tensions mount, Alma faces personal reckonings amid a volatile academic community where questions of gender, race, and institutional power collide. The film also stars Michael Stuhlbarg as Alma’s husband and Chloë Sevigny as a fellow professor.

Dennis Lim, NYFF Artistic Director, called the film “a complex, grown-up movie with a lot on its mind that also happens to be deeply entertaining.”

Presented by Film at Lincoln Center, NYFF has shaped film culture since 1963, showcasing groundbreaking works from visionary directors and emerging talents alike.
