The legendary Waldorf Astoria New York has unveiled its newly restored Grand Ballroom and historic event spaces, marking a triumphant return as Manhattan’s premier destination for luxury stays, galas, weddings, and high-profile events. The restoration follows a full-scale transformation of the hotel, which also includes reimagined guest rooms, suites, and world-class dining, blending the property’s storied past with a bold vision for contemporary luxury.

With over a century of history hosting landmark events—including the first Tony Awards, early Met Galas, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony—the Waldorf Astoria reclaims its place as New York’s cultural beacon. The hotel’s crown jewels, including the Grand Ballroom, Silver Corridor, Astor Salon, Basildon Room, and Jade Room, have been meticulously restored to preserve their Art Deco grandeur while incorporating modern technology and infrastructure for today’s events.

The Grand Ballroom, a three-story space with curtained balconies and capacity for 1,500 guests, has been refurbished with state-of-the-art sound, lighting, rigging, and staging, rivaling the city’s premier performance venues. Decorative plaster bas relief medallions sculpted by Eugene Rochette and Michael Parzini remain at the center of the ceiling, illuminated by luminescent cove lighting designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) to honor the original architects Schultze & Weaver. Interior design by Pierre-Yves Rochon (PYR) merges historical elegance with contemporary luxury.

Other restored spaces include the Basildon Room, an 18th-century-inspired venue with frescoes, lunettes, and paneling imported from England’s Basildon Manor; the Silver Corridor, featuring sixteen Edward Emerson Simmons murals salvaged from the original hotel; and the Jade Room, a light-filled space for up to 420 guests, ideal for banquets or as a complement to the Grand Ballroom. The Astor Salon now welcomes natural light, preserving its historical columns while offering modern functionality for events.

Waldorf Astoria’s event amenities have also been elevated, including a dedicated event experience manager, in-house production consultation, media suites, one of Manhattan’s largest coat checks, and multiple private entrances, including a porte-cochère on 49th Street—the only one in the city. The hotel now offers 43,000 square feet of cutting-edge event space across 14 private rooms, positioning it as the ultimate venue for New York’s social and cultural life.

“Waldorf Astoria New York has served as the backdrop for countless historic moments,” said Danny Hughes, President, Americas, Hilton. “With the restored Grand Ballroom and event spaces, we continue our legacy as the city’s center for luxury, culture, and unforgettable gatherings.”
