Vilnius has been officially named European Hospitality City 2025 by the European Hotel Awards, receiving a rare Honorary Award reserved for cities that set exceptional standards for hospitality across the continent. The distinction, not awarded annually, recognizes destinations that embody sincerity, openness, excellence, and human warmth—values the jury says Vilnius exemplifies at a pivotal moment in Europe’s travel and hospitality landscape.
The announcement was made during a gala ceremony on November 17 at the Grand Hotel Vilnius, where hospitality leaders from across Europe gathered to celebrate innovation and excellence in the industry. This year’s awards honored recipients from 15 European countries, including Italy, France, Spain, and nations across the Baltics and Central Europe, placing Vilnius firmly among Europe’s most influential hospitality destinations.
Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas highlighted the significance of the recognition, noting the city’s rapid evolution in recent years. He emphasized that Vilnius’ hospitality ecosystem extends beyond hotels to include restaurants, service providers, and cultural institutions that collectively shape the visitor experience. The award signals to the international community that Vilnius is not only rich in history, but also a dynamic European capital defined by creativity, openness, and a distinct culture of welcome.
According to the European Hotel Awards jury, Vilnius represents a new narrative for Europe—one where tradition and innovation coexist seamlessly. Beyond its architectural beauty and heritage, the city reflects a modern approach to hospitality that balances authenticity with high standards of comfort and service. The award serves both as recognition and encouragement, reinforcing Vilnius’ growing influence within the European travel sector.
In addition to the city-wide honor, four representatives from Vilnius’ hospitality industry were recognized individually. Radisson Collection Astorija was named 2025 Hotel of the Year in Lithuania, while Donatas Šatkauskas of Telegrafas received Chef of the Year honors. Sigita Rudzevičiėnė, general manager of Grand Hotel Vilnius – Curio Collection by Hilton, was awarded Hotel Director of the Year, and Evalda Šiškauskienė, president of the Lithuanian Hotels and Restaurants Association, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her longstanding contributions to the industry.
These accolades arrive as Vilnius strengthens its position on the European travel map. The city has recently hosted major industry gatherings, including the Future Hospitality & Tourism Forum and the Baltic Gastro Summit, and is preparing to welcome the General Assembly of HOTREC next year.
With its fast-growing hotel and restaurant scene, international events calendar, and emphasis on authentic experiences, Vilnius is increasingly attracting industry leaders and travelers alike—cementing its status as one of Europe’s most compelling hospitality destinations.
