Atlantic Theater Company is closing out its 40th anniversary season with a bold new work, announcing the world premiere of The Saviors, a play by Bubba Weiler and directed by Jack Serio.
The production will begin previews on June 11, 2026, with an official opening set for June 28, running through July 19 at Atlantic Stage 2 in New York City. The limited engagement marks the final show in a celebratory season for the company, known for championing new voices and intimate storytelling.
The Saviors centers on a deeply emotional and complex relationship between two altar boys whose bond is tested when a troubled young man seeks refuge in their church. As their faith, identities, and personal transformations collide, the story explores themes of loyalty, vulnerability, and the uncertainty of growing up.
The production reunites Weiler and Serio following their critically praised collaboration on Well, I’ll Let You Go, which earned attention during its recent run in New York. Weiler, a Brooklyn-based playwright and actor, continues to build momentum after his debut work and notable stage performances, including his role in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Serio, a Drama Desk and Obie Award-winning director, brings an acclaimed track record that includes both New York and West End productions.
Atlantic Theater Company, led by Artistic Director Neil Pepe and Managing Director Jeffory Lawson, has long been a powerhouse in the Off-Broadway world. Since its founding in 1985, the company has produced more than 200 plays and musicals, including Tony Award-winning hits like The Band’s Visit and Spring Awakening. Its commitment to developing new work and amplifying emerging voices remains central to its mission.
