The iconic Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel Swim is set to return on March 28, welcoming endurance swimmers and adventure enthusiasts to one of the Caribbean’s most celebrated open water events. This year’s swim will feature former Team GB Olympic open water swimmer Alice Dearing, marking a historic moment for the event and shining a global spotlight on Nevis as a premier sports tourism destination.
Spanning the 4.1-kilometre (2.5-mile) Narrows between Nevis and St. Kitts, the swim is renowned for its breathtaking setting of turquoise waters, volcanic peaks, and palm-fringed coastline. More than a test of endurance, it celebrates the islands’ natural beauty, culture, and adventurous spirit, drawing swimmers and spectators from around the world.
Andia Ravariere, CEO of the Nevis Tourism Authority, emphasized the strategic significance of the swim: “The Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel Swim is more than a sporting event; it is a bold statement about where Nevis is headed. This year, we are proud to welcome Alice Dearing, the first Black woman to represent Great Britain in Olympic swimming. Her participation places this event firmly on the global stage and reinforces Nevis as a serious sports tourism destination.”
Premier of Nevis, Hon. Mark Brantley, also highlighted the swim’s national and international significance: “This unique open water event has become a bucket-list experience for swimmers worldwide. Families gather each year to test themselves against the warm Caribbean Sea. We welcome all swimming enthusiasts to experience the charm and beauty of Nevis.”
Alice Dearing, a Tokyo 2020 Olympian and multiple-time national champion, expressed her excitement for the event in a video message: “It doesn’t get more special than crossing between two islands in a place as beautiful as Nevis and St. Kitts. Warm water, incredible scenery, and that sense of adventure are what open water swimming is all about. I’m thrilled to be part of this bucket-list swim.”
Beyond the race, visitors can explore Nevis’ blend of barefoot luxury, rich history, and unspoiled landscapes. Highlights include hiking Nevis Peak, relaxing in natural hot springs, touring historic sites, and enjoying pristine, uncrowded beaches. The island’s authentic Caribbean culture and hospitality complete the experience.
The Nevis Tourism Authority also recognized the event’s pioneers, including Winston Crooke and organizer Jane Hansom, for their dedication to elevating the swim’s profile. Registration for the 2026 edition is now open at nevistostkittscrosschannelswim.com.
