Pink Fang, the experimental theater company formerly known as Ping Chong and Company, is set to debut its latest original production, The Table, in New York City this June. Running June 5–14 at The Gym at Judson Memorial Church, the movement-driven work promises an immersive theatrical experience that explores desire, fulfillment, and the human struggle to find contentment.
Created by Mei Ann Teo, Pink Fang’s Artistic Director of New Work, and acclaimed performance maker Erika Chong Shuch, The Table marks one of the first major productions developed under the company’s evolving artistic leadership. Through a blend of movement, imagery, sound, and design, the production examines what happens when people confront the relentless pursuit of “more” and begin questioning what is truly enough.
Rather than relying on traditional storytelling, The Table unfolds through a poetic and highly visual performance language. The production centers on three characters identified simply as 30, 50, and 100, accompanied by two unseen forces that influence their lives. Together, they navigate a shifting world where ordinary objects become transformative and the boundaries between reality and imagination blur.
The work explores themes of appetite, grief, longing, and interdependence, asking audiences to reflect on personal feelings of inadequacy and the societal pressures that fuel them. At its heart is a deeply personal inquiry: How do people move beyond feeling “not enough” and begin to recognize abundance in their lives?
“The Table goes deep into the experience of a femme body aging and reckons with the lie of infinite possibility and other paradigms of our conditioning,” said Teo. “We’re finding how fitting a metaphor it is for the global ecological conundrum we find ourselves in right now.”
For Chong Shuch, the production embraces mystery as a form of understanding. Rather than providing easy answers, the work invites audiences to connect through sensation, emotion, and intuition.
The production features a multidisciplinary creative team, including set and costume designer Peiyi Wong, lighting designer Tuce Yasak, projection designer Hao Bai, sound designer Justin Hicks, and dramaturg Tomi Tsunoda. The cast includes Ching Valdes-Aran, maura nguyễn donohue, Rami Margron, Shannon Yu, and Julia Gu.
Developed over several years through workshops, retreats, and collaborative residencies in New York and California, The Table reflects Pink Fang’s commitment to innovative, community-centered performance. The result is an intimate yet ambitious theatrical experience that challenges audiences to sit with uncertainty, embrace complexity, and reconsider what it means to live a fulfilled life.
