Felicia Frazier is bringing her passion for emerging artists back to New York City with the first-ever New York appearance of her Miami-based gallery, Dolly and Oz Presents.
The gallery will present Where We Gather Now, a pop-up exhibition featuring the work of photographer Lyall Aston, painter Jeremy Turpin and sculptor Anita Katz. The exhibition opens Sept. 16 at 2 Rivington St. on the Lower East Side and runs through Sept. 26.
Bringing together artists working across photography, painting and sculpture, the exhibition explores how people see and understand one another beyond outward appearances. Each artist approaches the theme through a distinct creative lens, inviting viewers to consider identity, connection, culture and shared experiences.
“Bringing that conversation to the Lower East Side, one of the most storied gathering places in New York City, felt like exactly the right home for it,” Frazier said. “At its core, this exhibition is about creating connections through art, bringing people together across cultures, experiences and perspectives to spark dialogue, empathy and a sense of shared humanity.”
For Frazier, the exhibition also represents a homecoming of sorts. She began her career in publishing in New York and went on to become an executive at Penguin Random House before turning her attention to the contemporary art world.
In 2022, Frazier launched Dolly and Oz Presents in Miami Beach, establishing a gallery focused on championing emerging artists and giving their work greater visibility. The New York pop-up marks an important expansion of that mission while bringing her back to the city where her professional journey began.
The exhibition will feature two opening events. Aston will open his presentation Thursday, Sept. 17, from 6 to 9 p.m., while Turpin and Katz will co-headline an opening Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m.
By taking the gallery beyond its Miami home, Frazier is creating an opportunity for New York audiences to discover artists who may be new to them while encouraging meaningful conversations through art.
Where We Gather Now offers more than a showcase of emerging talent. It is an invitation to pause, look beyond the surface and consider the ways art can bring people together across different backgrounds and perspectives.
