Rev. Al Sharpton will be among the honorees at the New York Association of Black Journalists’ (NYABJ) 2026 Gala Sneaker Ball, where he will receive the organization’s Legacy in Civil Rights and Media Award.

The Oct. 23 event will run from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Alhambra Ballroom in New York City, featuring journalist Tiffany Cross, radio personality Lenny Green and A’ndre Davis, producer and star of the stage production “Man of the House.”

Sharpton, who founded the National Action Network, has built a decades-long career at the intersection of activism, politics, and media. He has led demonstrations, advocated for families affected by police violence and used his public platform to bring attention to racial inequality and civil rights issues. His television appearances and commentary have also made him a familiar voice in national discussions about race and social justice.

NYABJ’s award recognizes his longstanding role in civil rights advocacy and his presence in media conversations that shape public understanding of racial and social issues.

The Sneaker Ball will bring together journalists, broadcasters, media executives, entertainers and other guests for an evening that combines recognition of professional achievement with networking and celebration. The program will include dinner, an open bar, music, and dancing.

Cross, a journalist and political commentator, will be featured during the program. Green, known for his work in radio, will serve as co-host. Davis will join the event as a presenter, adding a connection to the theater and entertainment community.

The annual gala is part of NYABJ’s work to recognize accomplishments in journalism and media while highlighting people whose careers have influenced public conversations and storytelling.

The organization brings together journalists and communications professionals working across print, digital, television, radio and other media platforms. Its annual celebration offers an opportunity for members and supporters to recognize industry contributions and build connections across the profession.

Tickets are available for the Oct. 23 Gala Sneaker Ball. The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m.
