Audible Theater Brings Immersive Horror Experience ‘A Ghost in Your Ear’ to New York With Extended Run

Theatergoers looking for a chilling night out this fall will have an opportunity to experience horror in an entirely different way when Audible Theater brings A Ghost in Your Ear to New York City. The immersive theatrical production, which places audiences inside a terrifying audiobook recording session, has announced new casting and an extended performance schedule.

Actor Lucas Iverson, known for his role in HBO’s medical drama The Pitt, joins the production, replacing Harry Richardson, who withdrew due to unforeseen circumstances. Iverson stars alongside Owen Campbell, known for the A24 horror film X.

Originally scheduled to open September 29, performances will now begin Saturday, October 3, at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre, located at 18 Minetta Lane in Manhattan. The limited engagement has also been extended through November 22, giving audiences an additional week to experience the production.

Written and directed by Tony Award nominee Jamie Armitage, known for the musical SIX, A Ghost in Your Ear features sound design by Tony-nominated collaborators Ben and Max Ringham, whose previous work includes A Doll’s House and Prima Facie.

The story follows an actor, played by Iverson, who arrives late at a sound studio for an unexpected recording session. Handed the script of a frightening ghost story, he begins reading while an engineer, portrayed by Campbell, operates the recording equipment.

But as the session continues, the line between fiction and reality begins to disappear. What starts as an ordinary recording assignment gradually transforms into a terrifying supernatural encounter, with the studio itself becoming part of the nightmare.

What makes the production particularly distinctive is its use of binaural sound technology. Audience members wear headphones that create an immersive audio environment, placing them directly inside the unfolding horror. The innovative approach allows sounds to move around listeners, creating the unsettling sensation that something—or someone—is nearby.

The production arrives in New York following an acclaimed, sold-out engagement at London’s Hampstead Theatre Downstairs. British critics have praised the experience, with The Guardian describing it as “truly terrifying headphone horror.”

Tickets are available through AudibleTheater.com. Beginning October 3, a limited number of $35 rush tickets will be offered through the TodayTix app starting at 9 a.m. ET. Student rush tickets will also be available at the theater box office for $35, beginning at 1 p.m. on performance days, with valid student identification.

For theater fans seeking something beyond traditional stage storytelling, A Ghost in Your Ear promises an unsettling experience that puts audiences right in the middle of the action.
