The Guggenheim Museum in New York has announced acclaimed poet Traci Brimhall as its 2025 Poet-in-Residence, continuing its partnership with the Academy of American Poets. Now in its fourth year, the residency highlights the Guggenheim’s dedication to integrating poetry and visual art, while expanding its commitment to diverse artistic voices.
Brimhall, a celebrated poet and professor of creative writing and narrative medicine at Kansas State University, is currently serving as the poet laureate of Kansas. She is the author of five poetry collections and is known for her lyrical exploration of identity, memory, and the human experience. Her work as poet laureate has emphasized connecting Kansas’s agricultural heritage with the power of the written word.
At the Guggenheim, Brimhall will collaborate on a series of events and programming that fuse poetry with contemporary art, offering visitors a new way to engage with the museum’s exhibitions. Her residency will include public readings, workshops, and poetry activations inspired by the upcoming exhibition Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers. The exhibition, known for exploring themes of race, identity, and mental health, will serve as a rich backdrop for Brimhall’s poetic responses and community-focused initiatives.
“We are thrilled to welcome Traci Brimhall to the Guggenheim,” said museum representatives. “Her work brings a deep emotional and intellectual resonance that aligns beautifully with the themes we’re exploring in our upcoming programming.”
The Poet-in-Residence program reflects the Guggenheim’s ongoing effort to create interdisciplinary experiences and support artists across mediums. With Brimhall at the helm for 2025, visitors can expect a compelling blend of poetry and visual storytelling that invites deeper reflection and connection.
