Tucked into the wooded backcountry of Greenwich, Connecticut, the Greenwich Polo Club offers visitors a glimpse into one of the world’s most traditional and elite sporting experiences. Established in 1981, the club has become a destination for high-goal polo, attracting top players, international teams, and thousands of spectators throughout the summer season.
Located on North Street in Greenwich’s Conyers Farm neighborhood, the club is surrounded by Connecticut’s picturesque countryside, creating a striking setting for Sunday afternoon polo.
Greenwich Polo Club is one of only three polo venues in the United States that offers high-goal polo at 20 goals or above. Matches are open to the public on Sundays during the summer, with gates typically opening at 1 p.m. and matches beginning at 3 p.m.
The experience is about more than watching a sporting event. Spectators often arrive with friends and family, set up picnics and spend the afternoon enjoying the grounds before watching professional polo players compete on the expansive field.
The club is also known for its roster of accomplished players. Among those who have competed at Greenwich Polo Club are Peter M. Brant, Nic Roldan, Mariano Aguerre, Tommy Biddle, Kris Kampsen, Fred Mannix Jr., Naco Taverna, and Peter Busch Orthwein.
The club was founded by Peter M. Brant, who developed his passion for polo after meeting polo player Thomas B. “Tommy” Glynn at the Fairfield Hunt Club. Brant formed the White Birch Polo Team in 1979 before establishing Greenwich Polo Club two years later with eight founding members.
Since then, the club has expanded from one polo field to three and has become home to White Birch, one of the sport’s most successful high-goal teams. White Birch won the U.S. Open Polo Championship in 2005 and has captured numerous major high-goal tournaments over the years.
Today, Greenwich Polo Club continues to combine competitive polo with a distinctive social experience. Its Sunday matches attract more than 2,000 spectators from Greenwich, Westchester County, New York City, and surrounding communities.
For visitors looking for an elegant summer afternoon outside the city, Greenwich Polo Club offers a combination of sport, scenery, fashion, socializing and tradition. Whether arriving to follow the competition or simply enjoy a picnic on the lawn, the club provides a distinctly New England take on the centuries-old sport known as the “Sport of Kings.”
General admission is $30 per person and includes lawn seating on the East Side of the field and access to the grandstand bleachers. Children under 12 enter free. On-site parking is $15 when purchased in advance online or $20 at the gate. For those looking for a more elevated experience, the CTC&G Players’ Lounge is $100 per person, while reserved East Lawn Umbrellas range from $175 to $250 for six guests. Group options include the East Lawn Cabana at $750, which includes 20 tickets and five parking passes, and the Grandstand Skybox at $400 for four seats with two parking passes.
