Peacock teamed up with Ohio-based Graeter’s Ice Cream to celebrate the second season of its comedy series The Paper, with a limited-edition ice cream collection, a special themed sundae and a complimentary ice cream truck experience in New York City.
The collaboration brought together the streaming platform and the Cincinnati-based creamery for a promotion inspired by the series, which followed a group of journalists working to revive a historic Ohio newspaper.
The centerpiece of the partnership was the limited-edition “Black, White, and Read All Over” ice cream bundle, available for online ordering through Graeter’s website. The newspaper-themed collection featured six pints in popular flavors: Cookies & Cream, Strawberry, Black Cherry Chip, Chocolate Chip, Madagascar Vanilla and Raspberry Sorbet. Each bundle also included a pint-sized ice cream cooler designed to keep the treats chilled while fans watched the new season.
The partnership extended beyond home viewing. Graeter’s introduced a custom “Black, White, and Read All Over” sundae at its retail locations. The specialty dessert featured Cookies & Cream ice cream topped with strawberry sauce, whipped cream, chocolate jimmies and a cherry.
New York City fans also had an opportunity to sample the collaboration firsthand when the Graeter’s x The Paper ice cream truck made two Manhattan stops on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The truck visited the Meatpacking District from noon to 2 p.m., on Washington Street between Little West 12th and Gansevoort streets, before heading to Castle Clinton Plaza at The Battery from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Complimentary samples of the limited-edition flavors were available.
Season two of The Paper was available to stream in its entirety on Peacock. Created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, the comedy followed the documentary crew behind the Emmy-winning The Office as they turned their cameras on a historic Midwestern newspaper and its publisher’s efforts to bring it back to life.
In the new season, editor Ned pursued a local private club in search of a major journalistic story, putting the newspaper’s future at risk. Meanwhile, Ned and Mare navigated their growing attraction, Esmeralda struggled to find her place, and the newsroom staff continued developing their reporting skills.
The series starred Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Tim Key, Ramona Young and Oscar Nuñez, among others.
Founded in 1870, Graeter’s remained a family-owned business for five generations. The company continued using its traditional French Pot method to produce ice cream and operated approximately 60 retail stores, with products also available in grocery stores nationwide.
