Film at Lincoln Center has announced that Scott Cooper’s highly anticipated biographical drama, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, will serve as the Spotlight Gala selection for the 63rd New York Film Festival (NYFF). The premiere takes place on September 28, with Cooper and cast members—including Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, and Odessa Young—joining legendary musician Bruce Springsteen in attendance. The festival runs from September 26 through October 13 and is presented by Film at Lincoln Center in partnership with Rolex.
Adapted from Warren Zanes’s 2023 best-selling chronicle, Deliver Me from Nowhere focuses on a pivotal moment in Springsteen’s early ’80s career. The film captures the creation of his iconic acoustic album Nebraska alongside the demo recordings for Born in the U.S.A., blending creative triumphs with personal struggles. Jeremy Allen White stars as Springsteen, delivering a revelatory performance that conveys the musician’s humanity and artistic intensity. Supporting roles include Jeremy Strong as manager Jon Landau, Odessa Young, Stephen Graham, Gaby Hoffmann as Springsteen’s parents, Paul Walter Hauser, and David Krumholtz.
“The New York Film Festival has always felt like a spiritual home for the kind of cinema I believe in,” said director Scott Cooper. “To now arrive with a film about Bruce Springsteen—an artist whose music shaped not just a country but my own sense of storytelling—is something I could never have imagined.”
NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim called the film “an intimate and immediate cinematic portrait of a living legend,” noting that the film’s focus on the creative and personal dimensions of Springsteen’s life sets it apart from typical biographical films.
Cooper, known for his character-driven dramas such as Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace, and Black Mass, brings a signature attention to detail and emotional depth to the project. Produced by Cooper, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Eric Robinson, and Scott Stuber, with Zanes and Tracey Landon as executive producers, the film is released by 20th Century Studios.
Tickets for Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere went on sale to the general public September 18. The NYFF continues its mission of presenting bold and remarkable works of cinema from established and emerging directors worldwide, maintaining its status as one of the nation’s most prestigious film festivals.
