The Africa-America Institute (AAI) has officially appointed Felicia Appenteng as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Appenteng, who stepped into the role of Interim CEO on July 1, 2025, was confirmed following a comprehensive executive search led by AAI’s Board of Trustees.

AAI Board Chair Christal Jackson praised the appointment, noting Appenteng’s deep understanding of the Institute’s mission and her ability to lead with clarity and vision. Jackson emphasized that Appenteng’s global perspective and strong relationships across Africa and the diaspora make her uniquely suited to guide AAI into its next era.

In her remarks, Appenteng expressed both gratitude and excitement about her new role, highlighting AAI’s legacy of advancing education, leadership, and economic empowerment across the African continent and its global communities. For more than seven decades, AAI has supported transformative initiatives in higher education and leadership development, and Appenteng said she looks forward to building on that foundation with renewed energy and collaboration.

Appenteng brings with her a wealth of leadership experience spanning philanthropy, international education, and cross-continental engagement. Prior to becoming Interim CEO, she held senior positions within AAI and at IE University, where she spearheaded strategic initiatives and cultivated key partnerships with governments, private sector leaders, and global institutions. Her career reflects a strong commitment to fostering African excellence while bridging opportunities across the diaspora.

Founded in 1953, AAI has long been recognized as a leader in advancing African talent and global understanding. Its programs and partnerships have supported thousands of students, policymakers, and professionals, shaping pathways for economic sovereignty and leadership across the continent. Under Appenteng’s leadership, the organization is poised to expand its impact even further, continuing its role as a vital connector between Africa and the world.

The CEO transition marks an important milestone for AAI as it reaffirms its mission in today’s rapidly changing global landscape. With Appenteng at the helm, the Institute aims to deepen its influence in areas such as liberatory education, leadership development, and cross-diaspora collaboration, ensuring that the next generation of African leaders are equipped to drive progress both locally and globally.
